FENCE AND LEASH REQUIREMENT
Cavaliers are active and sporting little dogs that require regular exercise. They have an instinct to chase just about anything that moves, and should either be on a leash or in a fenced yard or they will surely end up under the wheels of a car. Because Cavaliers never become street-smart, reputable Cavalier breeders will require a fenced yard as a prerequisite for Cavalier ownership. And, electric fences are not recommended as they allow preditors to enter the property keeping your Cavalier unprotected. An electric fence will not always contain a Cavalier... they have been known to run right through the shock and never want to return.
IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A FENCED IN YARD, DO NOT BOTHER CONTACTING US FOR A CAVALIER UNTIL YOU PUT ONE UP.
THE FOLLOWING LETTER IS EXACTLY WHY A FENCE IS A MAJOR REQUIREMENT !!! THIS FAMILY FELT AN ELECTRIC FENCE WAS A SAFE ROUTE TO TAKE. IT IS NOT! ELECTRIC FENCES ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE !!!
Melissa,
I sit here in tears as I write this to you. We had a tragic accident happen on Monday and it's taken me this long to gain enough composure to write you about it. My beautiful boy ran underneath my tire in a bout of excitement. This is something he had never done before and we are certainly the most cautious with him in our driveway. I remember getting emails from Elise on how this happens too often and I never thought it would happen to him because of how smart he is around cars and how careful we are to watch that he's not near us as we pull out. I guess when they say accidents happen, this would be a clear example.
I feel like the life has been sucked out of me because you know how attached I was to him. I had just groomed him the day before and he looked so beautiful. Words cannot express how devastated I've been this whole week. I hope you can understand that this has been the most horrible thing thats happened to me because he was such a huge part of my life.
HERE ARE A FEW LETTERS WE'VE RECEIVED FROM PEOPLE WHO DID NOT HEAD OUR LEASH REQUIREMENT!
Elise,
We are so upset because we thought our girl was so well trained. My husband was pulling away for work with all of us standing out front waving goodbye and within a quick second she disappeared under the car wheel. My husband is beside himself with upset and it was not a pretty site for my three little kids to see. We are all so sorry this happened but we can't bring her back. We are heartbroken.

Elise,
Lily and I were outside saying goodbye to a friend when he pulled away and she started chasing his car! I didn't have her on a leash but thought she was trained and would stay by my side. I was wrong and you were right! I will never take her outside again without a leash! My heart dropped for a few seconds there and I thought she was a gonner. I promise to always have her on a leash from now on no matter what! I learned my lesson (luckily not the hard way). People should really listen to their breeders as they know their breed!!!
AND, HERE'S A PUPPY INQUIRY WE RECENTLY RECEIVED...
Hi There,
I would like to inquire about your puppies for sale. We just lost our Blenheim boy (1 1/2 yr old) to a tragic hit and run. We loved our puppy soooo much and are devastated and heartbroken. Do you have any puppies for sale?
WITHOUT A FENCE YOU WILL NOT GET A PUPPY FROM US. SORRY... NO EXCEPTIONS! WE DO NOT WANT TO HEAR ABOUT YET ANOTHER CAVALIER LOST TO A CAR TIRE!
